Safety Dance

BAT FEST 2015! Austin does this awesome thing where they shut down the entire Congress St bridge for a day to have a huge festival for the Congress bats! If you have no idea what I’m talking about when I say Congress bats.. we have a problem. Did you know there are millions of bats that live under that Congress St bridge. They fly out every night at sunset. It’s a little magical seeing them take off for the night. Kinda creepy magical. If that’s a thing. My mom found out about this festival and of course we had to attend. We trucked down Congress from our villa to see the bridge filled with vendors, carnival rides, stages, etc. I couldn’t believe this was something Austin did just for the bats.. and the weird Austin folk. Any who, we ate, we drank, we shopped (I’ll be posting photos of my goodies sometime soon), and we danced! Guess what banded played that night? Give up? MEN WITHOUT HATS! I know. You’re probably thinking.. “Who in the hell is that Tanna?” Well, let me sing some lyrics to their most famous song real quick for ya. “We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind..” See! I knew you knew who they were! Jake and I ran to the stage and some how ended up with front row spots. After the band that played at 10 left, we waited. And waited. And waited. How long does it take to get a stage set up? They were supposed to be on at 11! Guess what time they went on? 12AM! We were able to jam out for all of 13 minutes before the city of Austin shut it down. Yeah, apparently you can’t be playing loud tunes after midnight. Bleh. But guess who got awesome photos, danced their pants off and jammed with my little brother at his first real concert? Don’t hurt yourself. I’m talking about me! All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my Saturday in Austin, or start my Sunday. You rock Men Without Hats!
